http://news.cnyes.com/news/id/3575607

他的部分早期作品成為了當時美國民權反戰運動的「聖歌」,例如《Blowin' in the Wind》和《The Times They Are a-Changing》。
Bob Dylan 早期知名度不高,很多創作的歌曲都是由其他人翻唱後才廣為人知,例如他的經典反戰歌《Blowin' in the Wind》便先後獲 Peter Paul and Mary、Stevie Wonder 及 Joan Baez 翻唱。隨着 Bob Dylan 陸續推出《It All Back Home and Highway》、《Blonde On Blonde》等作品,知名度亦愈來愈高,奠定他在樂壇的不朽地位。

http://www.edu.cn/ke_yan_yu_fa_zhan/special_topic/nobel/wx/201610/t20161014_1457798.shtml

Can song lyrics ever be poetry?

By Brian Wheeler BBC News, Washington DC

Nobel Prize committee gives up trying to contact Bob Dylan
17 OCTOBER 2016

The Nobel Prize committee has given up trying to reach Bob Dylan, five days after he became the first musician awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Dylan, 75, is yet to respond to the accolade, which was announced on Thursday. That evening he gave a concert in Las Vegas in which he spoke little, and did not mention the award.

On Friday he performed in Coachella, as part of the Desert Trip festival – and was commended by The Rolling Stones, who performed after him.

"I want to thank Bob Dylan for an amazing set," said Sir Mick Jagger. "We have never shared the stage with a Nobel Prize winner before. Bob is like our own Walt Whitman."

Keith Richards added: "I can’t think of anybody that deserved it better."

But Dylan himself again failed to acknowledge it.

The Swedish Academy, which awards the prizes every October and organises the presentation in December, says it has not heard back from the Minnesota-born singer.

"Right now we are doing nothing,” said Sara Danius, permanent secretary of the academy. “I have called and sent emails to his closest collaborator and received very friendly replies. For now, that is certainly enough."

Dylan has a long and erratic history with award ceremonies, beginning with his 1963 Tom Paine award for civil rights, in which he delivered a rambling acceptance speech saying he sympathised with JFK’s assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. He later issued an apology.

In 2000 he won the Oscar for Best Original Song, with Things Have Changed from the film Wonder Boys. But he chose to not to attend, and instead accepted the award via video link, from Australia.

In 2007 he skipped the Crown Prince of Spain’s ceremony to award the Prince of Asturias medal, playing that night in Omaha instead, and in 2010 failed to show up at the White House to collect the National Medal for the Arts.

Barack Obama, who has frequently declared himself to be a great fan of Dylan’s, tweeted congratulations to the legendary rock star for his Nobel Prize, calling him “one of my favorite poets.” Mr Obama even included a link to a Spotify playlist created today to provide an overview of Dylan’s music.

But Mr Obama has previously told how Dylan, invited to play at the White House, was initially reluctant to accept the invitation. When he finally agreed to play at the 2010 ceremony, to mark Black History Month, he performed – and then walked off, without asking for photos or attending any ceremonies.

“Here’s what I love about Dylan: He was exactly as you’d expect he would be,” recalled Mr Obama, in a 2013 interview.

“He wouldn't come to the rehearsal; usually, all these guys are practicing before the set in the evening.

“He didn't want to take a picture with me; usually all the talent is dying to take a picture with me and Michelle before the show, but he didn't show up to that.

“He came in and played The Times They Are A-Changin’. A beautiful rendition. The guy is so steeped in this stuff that he can just come up with some new arrangement, and the song sounds completely different.

“Finishes the song, steps off the stage — I’m sitting right in the front row — comes up, shakes my hand, sort of tips his head, gives me just a little grin, and then leaves.

“And that was it — then he left. That was our only interaction with him.

“And I thought: That’s how you want Bob Dylan, right? You don’t want him to be all cheesin’ and grinnin’ with you. You want him to be a little sceptical about the whole enterprise.”

Ms Danius, from the academy, said they did not know whether he planned to attend the December 10 ceremony, for winners to be presented with their awards in Stockholm from King Carl Gustaf.

"If he doesn't want to come, he won't come,” said Ms Danius. “It will be a big party in any case and the honour belongs to him.

"I am not at all worried. I think he will show up."

What did Bob Dylan say about Nobel win?
The answer is still blowin’ in the wind

Bob Dylan’s silence could prove embarrassing for the Swedish Academy, which has faced some criticism for its decision to award the Nobel prize to a songwriter for the first time.

Blowin’ In The Wind
WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN

http://bobdylan.com/songs/blowin-wind/

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, ’n’ how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, ’n’ how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they’re forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
Yes, ’n’ how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?
Yes, ’n’ how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn’t see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, ’n’ how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, ’n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

Song Meaning and Lyrics Review of “Blowin’ In The Wind”

http://justrandomthings.com/2016/06/05/bob-dylan-blowin-wind-lyrics-review-song-meaning/

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?

One of the most famous quotes and mysterious lyrics of all time gives the start to this song. There have been many interpretations of this verse and there’s no wrong one.
The simplest interpretation would be that the artist is questioning about the life experiences of a person-how many of it does take for someone to be considered grown up. Other interpretations include references to civil right marches that were popular in the 60’s. How many of these walks would it take to win what they naturally have a right to?

How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?

A ‘white dove’ is the universal symbol of peace, unity and harmony-or at least in the Earth. Bob Dylan asks how many of these white doves must sail before world peace is achieved? White doves are released in ceremonies commemorating peace, and the day that no white doves must fly is the day that everybody is in peace.

Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they’re forever banned?

A direct reference to war is seen here. Cannonballs were a popular, destructive tool of war during medieval wars. Why would they be banned? The day there is no use for a tool of war would be the day cannonballs would be banned. And in such a day, we can expect peace.

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

Is there no answer to world peace? Yes, there is. Where is it? They are blowing in the wind. The answers are out there for anyone who is willing to grab them. The real problem is that no one is willing or capable of grabbing those answers.

Yes, How many years can a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?

A mountain represents something solid and strong. This is a reference to life. How long can someone with pride and glory exist before it all fades away? There’s nothing certain in this world and as great mountains someday wash down to the earth, people with greatness and hold it over them will crumble down as well.

Yes, and how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?

Bob Dylan captured the African American mistreatment in “Blowin’ In The Wind” with the above lines. He asks the question, when will these people be free? ‘Exist’ is a powerful word here. Dylan subtly says that these African Americans are so deprived of their rights that they are merely ‘existing’, not living.

Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn’t see?

The greatest sin a person can do is seeing some wrong doing and turning his head the other way. How long can we go on without addressing these issues that are before our hands? How long can we turn a blind eye?

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

Again, all the answers are just out there, waiting for someone to grab them.

Yes, How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?

‘Sky’ is freedom. The artist believed in freedom and equal opportunity for all. How long does people have to fight and bleed for this freedom? Why isn’t there a simple solution? Why can’t everyone be happy together?

Yes, and how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?

The cries of war and cries of freedom are left unheard, but for how long? Isn’t two ears enough to hear this pain? How can people turn a blind eye to all this outcries?

Yes, and how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?

War is just futile-should there be one death or a thousand. There are countless wars where people were sent into slaughter in the name of Lords and Kings and Gods. But none of that have mattered to glorified generals. When would they realize that too many mothers, fathers, husbands and wives and children have died for no cause?

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

And the answer to all these questions Bob Dylan poses are there in the wind. They move, they change, but the answers are there. It’s only a matter of trying to pick them up.

Blowin' in the wind

Dylan claims that he wrote this song in about 10 minutes one afternoon. He put words to the melody of an old slave song called "No More Auction Block," which he might have learned from Carter family records. In the evening, Dylan took the song to the nightclub Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village, where he was due to play a set. Before playing it, he announced, "This here ain't no protest song or anything like that, 'cause I don't write no protest songs."

http://culture.people.com.cn/n1/2016/1013/c87423-28777040.html

The Times They Are A-Changin’
WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN

http://bobdylan.com/songs/times-they-are-changin/

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again
And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

This became an anthem for frustrated youth. It summed up the anti-establishment feelings of people who would later be known as hippies. Many of the lyrics are based on the Civil Rights movement in the US.

In the liner notes of this album Biograph, Dylan wrote: "I wanted to write a big song, some kind of theme song, with short, concise verses that piled up on each other in a hypnotic way. This is definitely a song with a purpose. I knew exactly what I wanted to say and who I wanted to say it to."

The times they are a changin'作为开场白,以划时代的歌曲介绍划时代的产品。

多年后乔布斯回忆起这桩心酸事,他说:“It gets back to the deep feeling of being rejected at an early age. …I felt like I’d been punched, the air knocked out of me and I couldn’t breathe.”
