Alimuddin named Education Ministry’s new DG

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom has been named the Education Ministry’s new director-general.
Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein described Alimuddin, formerly deputy director-general (schools), as experienced, fair and hardworking.
“He also has a good working relationship with the teaching unions and teachers,” he told The Star yesterday after informing Alimuddin of the appointment soon after receiving the official letter of confirmation.
The appointment is effective from this Wednesday, with Alimuddin replacing Datuk Dr Ahamad Sipon, who retired last month.
Hishammuddin said the new director-general's first task would be to work on strengthening the teaching profession.
“I am sure he will be able to fulfil his responsibilities well, especially in new areas we are pioneering such as the cluster schools and reforms in preschools and primary schools, as well as the internationalisation of education, since he has been working on them with me all along,” he said.
Alimuddin said he was touched by the trust placed in him by both the Prime Minister and the Education Minister.
“It is a big responsibility as this is a big ministry, with more than 300,000 teachers, five million students and 10,000 schools under me,” he said.
He added that as director-general he would ensure that the objectives of the National Education Blueprint 2006-2010 would be met.
Alimuddin, 55, had been promoted to deputy director-general (schools) in March.

前任教育总监Dato Ahmad Sipon退休后，接获新的任务，已经赴曼谷上任。
