The King and The Horn

It was told that a long time ago, there was a kingdom ruled by a mighty ruler called the Secretive King. He ruled the land with justice and every people in the whole country praised him. But there was one thing that each people in that kingdom always asking for, why the Secretive King was called as secretive?

In every four weeks, the Secretive King will call his assistant to find a barber, and every time he asked for that purpose, his assistant shivered as he knew what had happened before. It was believed that if the Secretive King asked for barbers, there will be a murder and blood will be spilled. The Secretive King’s assistant wondered why every barber who came to serve the Secretive King must be killed. Even though there were many barbers had been killed, people did not know about this, because the country was full of barbers. They even established a mansion which was passed by the Secretive King himself for youngsters who eager to be a barber.

As it was storied earlier, one day the Secretive King summoned his assistant to invite a barber. Latter, the barber came with his equipments to cut and shave the hair of the Secretive King. The barber served his king in a solitary chamber to avoid any disturbance. When the barber tried to do his job, he was stunned by something at the top of the Secretive King’s head right after he removed the turban. Initially, he wanted to ask the Secretive King what had happened to his head, but he refused to do so as he knew he must preserve the way he was, as a servant. But the Secretive King was cunning; he sniffed and knew that the barber had seen the thing on his head. The thing that so terrible and hard to be explained in a plain word, and it was born after he was crowned by his late father. There was a big pair of horn inside his turban and it was born right at the middle of his head.

The Secretive King told directly to the barber that after he had done the job, he will be killed. The barber frightened and never thought his life will be ended after he served very well. Ironically, this time the Secretive King made an exception and asked the barber as a reward for his nice service, whether the barber wanted to make a covenant in exchange for what he had seen the biggest secret of the king, his horn. Without no question and thought, the barber affirmed and agreed to bear the secret with his life. After serving the Secretive King, the barber came out from the castle and walked home with a piece of myth in his life.

After many days passed, the barber who served the Secretive King felt that it was unbearable to keep the secret. Each time he questioned himself whether to spit out the secret. One day he made a choice to spit out the secret and he went alone to the forest. In the thick forest, he looked for something unusual and eventually he found a huge tree that he considered to be unfamiliar and rarely found by any people. The tree had its roots and also a big hole beneath it. The barber came closer to the roots and yelled loudly as loud as the tigers roar.

After a few days, there was a big occasion in that kingdom, the crowning day of the king. The Secretive King ordered his glorified guards to find a rare piece of wood in order to make a big special drum for this event. The council had decided and passed the decision to the guards to find those woods in the forest. The guards marched to the said forest and the hunt for the rare piece of wood began. After a night of searching, a small party of guards found the biggest tree in that forest. They believed with that size, this could be the rare wood that the king was looking for. Without any hesitation, they cut down the tree along with the roots and took them back to the palace. Nearside the castle, the specialists carved precisely the woods as preferred by the Secretive King and they finished the job in no time.

The next day, the Secretive King appeared himself in front of his people and presented a loving speech. After the king ended his speech, he ordered the guards to bring out the big drum. People of the kingdom were astonished by the size of that drum and wondered from where and what it was made. Meanwhile, the Secretive King took his seat happily and signaled his guards to play the drum. As instructed by their king, the guards hit the drum and the sound came out so loud and surprised the people on the ground. The drum speaks! Said one of the people. The guards played once more and this time the sound was same as usual. The Secretive King stunned and ordered the guards to stop playing.

The Secretive King never thought that the drum could speak, plus it spoke with the thing he tried to hide; the drum said “the king has a horn”. After being embarrassed in front of his people, the Secretive King stood up and told the people that he had a pair of horn inside his big turban, that people thought it was his hair made the turban larger. Despite the embarrassment he had, people loved him as a ruler of the kingdom; he was impartial and further acknowledged as the best ruler in that kingdom. Now the Secretive King had no more secrets inside or outside his drawers, he reined the kingdom, live long and prospers.

你确定我们行得正?有时还是有一点自觉性比较好。毕竟这里不是我们的地头,不是吗?
